Breakfast with Frida
My still life painting captures my slow morning ritual at home. The composition includes coffee, breakfast, tulips and a Frida Kahlo book, arranged within an intimate interior setting overlooking the garden and surrounding landscape. I chose these objects because they reflect aspects of my current life and personal values, particularly the importance of slowing down, connecting with my environment and beginning the day with creativity and presence rather than digital distraction. My aim was to create a painting that conveyed emotional warmth, comfort and quiet reflection through the use of colour, atmosphere and composition. The inclusion of tulips introduces an element of flora into the still life tradition. Historically, flowers such as tulips were associated with luxury and fleeting beauty within still life painting and in my work, they symbolise the temporary and precious nature of everyday moments.
