Eliá
Eliá is a linocut print on textured handmade paper. The work was inspired by my Greek heritage and the cultural significance of the olive tree. Growing up with olive oil as an essential part of food, family and everyday life, I was drawn to the olive as a symbol deeply connected to my cultural identity. Influenced by the simplicity of Henry Evans’ Grasses series, I isolated the branch against the paper, allowing its natural form to stand alone.
Through the process of carving, I discovered a patience and attentiveness that closely connects with my drawing practice, where time and observation become central to making.
“It’s as if I can feel yiayia’s presence beside me, reminding me that love is measured in gestures and generous amounts of olive oil.”
