Alive with death

Alive with death is a participatory guided reflection which invites people to explore and improve their relationship with death. The reflection is constructed into two-parts, where instructions for engagement are presented onto a double-sided card. Participants are invited to interact by scanning the QR provided to listen to the audio work from their chosen outdoor location, whilst being barefoot to establish a physical connection to the environment. The second part of engagement progresses into a series of questions for contemplation that evoke individual emotional responses. These are designed to act as a catalyst in changing how participants approach their life, by aligning what they value most to live a purposeful, present life.

The work explores themes of mortality, absence and the afterlife to present a transformative journey into the cycle of life. It merges existentialist philosophical thought with Buddhism, Taoism, Christianity, nature and science. This integration offers an elemental lens bridging the unknown through multiple perspectives. Ultimately, presenting the simple truth of our own mortality combined with seeking out gaps beyond the known allows for reflection and connection.
